Walt is obsessed with "losing coordinators" even though Dan Campbell clearly has proven that it's irrelevant for a top 3 coach in the league. The entire year has been about how bad Detroit was going to regress and he thought he was right after Week 1 and had to eat his words the last 4 weeks. Now it's about discrediting the opponents they've played. Once Det beats KC there will be another reason as to why I'm sure. @jmacphee9

Glad to see you finally see the light with the Lions! Also Packers "amazing defense" sure looked great against the inept Cowboys - it's almost like Week 1 takes truly don't matter. 1 0

@j_oliver_23 I think the bigger deal with the Lions is Dan Campbell/Brad Holmes proving thenselves as a top HC/GM combo. Replacing guards and coordinators is relatively easy with a strong HC/Front Office in place 2 0

The refs were blatantly on the side of Bal in that game as well (Branch chop block, missed fg?, hit to head of Goff, etc) but it's nice to see that Detroit has gotten good enough to overcome good teams + the refs unlike the past 0 0

"The Lions lost to the Packers by two touchdowns, but the gap between the two teams was much wider than that. They went on to crush the Bears, but Chicago is a terrible team that shot itself in the foot repeatedly."

So Chicago shot themselves in the foot multiple times yet allowed a franchise record in YPA and Goff to throw for 5 TDs not to mention exceptional blocking by the OLine that only allowed 2 pressures and opened holes in the running game.

Detroit even though playing not great against GB still won the TOP by a lot which you mention all the time as a reason why another team should have won yet you just choose to ignore that while not giving the same - "shot itself in the foot argument". Honestly it's clear you're hellbent on the Lions being overrated this year when there is no evidence to support that especially this early in the year.

"Week 2 is often known as Overreaction Week because people form wild opinions based on what transpired in one week of football." Then you proceed to overreact to the Lions Week 1. I guess Detroit better fire their 2 new coordinators because of "Massive Regression". How about we wait until Week 8 and 9 and see where the team is at before you validate your opinion? 0 0

Here are some stats to combat your opinion on "Massive regression" for the Detroit Lions due to losing their coordinators.

It's a rare occurrence happening to 4 other teams in the past 20+ years + Last record prior to losing coordinators

Phi - 2022 - 14-3 SB Loss

Cin - 2013 11-5 WC Loss

NE - 2004 - 14-2 SB win

SF - 1994 - 13-3 SB Win

The next year following the loss of their coordinators they went

Phi - 11-5 WC Loss

Cin - 10-5-1 WC Loss

NE - 10-6 (won division) DR Loss

SF - 11-5 (won division) DR Loss

So history actually does NOT show that a "massive regression" is what's coming for the Lions who were 15-2 last season rather a slight regression of a game or 2 which was obviously to be expected with their 15-2 record and a much harder SOS. Hopefully facts help with your assessment, along with factoring in that there are rookies playing in the middle of the line, which naturally require an adjustment period rather than they they are overrated and suck.

Dan Campbell has routinely out-coached LaFleur at every stop and Detroit has the talent advantage is almost every position group. Continually playing the Coordinator card is an easy media trope to jump on but when you dig into it, they actually replaced their coordinators with in-house guy for DC (who A Glenn literally groomed for the role) and an in-house guy in 2022 for OC (Who Dan also coached with in NO).

They've clearly said they aren't changing the offense as it's the top 3 in the NFL already so to use the Eagles as a comparison is a poor choice as it's apples to oranges.

Sure the middle of the O Line is a question but Glasgow is proven at least average at Center and Mahogany graded very highly in his 2 starts last season and Ratledge is next to Sewell the best OT in football. Also you don't even talk about how much improved the Lions Defense is by simply being healthy - Potentially top 5 secondary in the NFL, Hutch is back on a DPOY track, Health LBer room and high end start (Reader) and 1st rd pick in T Williams for DT.

Detroit vs everybody

@j_oliver_23 Good stuff. Also: Like everyone, I worry about the DET interior O-line, but it's not as if GB has a game-wrecking DT. With Kenny Clark traded, the GB interior DL may be as big of a question as the DET interior OL. 0 0

Taylor Decker's wife just had a baby that's why he's away - He's playing. Christian Mahogany is the backup Guard and he was had a tremendous first start grading out highly. He will also be sandwiched between the best center and RT in the game so I think he'll be all right 0 0

Again the BEARS will never in any universe be ahead of the Lions via power rankings. Especially after DET detonated a hot Denver team and CHI choked away another loss. While I spend probably too much time on this site - this is one of the more frustrating things, obsession with BAD football teams thinking they're better because they missed some plays. 0 0

I've always said never get annoyed with power rankings because they mean absolutely nothing BUT it's absolutely mind-boggling how you put the 9-4 Lions at #12 behind the 5 and effing 8 Bears, behind the Packers never mind the other teams under .500.

Yes the Lions haven't looked great against GB or CHI but by your logic why isn't TEN top 10 and MIA outside of TOP 10, the PACK just lost to Tommy Devito yet they're ahead of the Lions. You keep quoting EPA but your record is still your record. Last year the Vikings were the mostly fraudulent 13 win team in history yet I'd bet they didn't drop anywhere close to outside the top 10 in power rankings. That's my rant...

@j_oliver_23 I'll admit that I am a big Bear fan but I try not to be a 'homer'. The first 4 games for the Bears were a 'nightmare'. Their best OL Tevin Jenkins was on IR. Two other OL were hurt and in and out of the lineup as well as their center. Their OL was arguably the worst in the league. Internal distractions also plagued the team. The Def Coordinator took a surprise Personal Leave just before the start of week 2 and was subsequently terminated by HR for an 'undisclosed reason'. Less than a week later their RB coach was also canned by HR. At virtually the same time the Bears cut C. Claypool for lack of effort, insubordination, whatever. When Jenkins came back and other OL members got healthier, the offense picked up although the coaching staff blew a late lead against Denver and they did the same fade against the Lions in Game 1 against them. Those fades cost them 2 very winnable games. However, J. Fields after returning from IR is beginning to show the type of ability that he has, but had not yet been able to translate that talent into victories because of the quality of the team he was on last year and early this year. I would heartily agree with you that the early season Bears were one of the worst [ if not the worst ] teams in the league. Walter does a tremendous job of focusing on injuries and the impact those injuries have on NFL teams. Right now, the Bears are relatively healthy unlike early in the year. Several rookies have shown signs of improvement and the acquisition of M. Sweat has dramatically improved the Defense. Right now, the Bears have a young, improving team on an upward trajectory. I do not like their coaching staff, but they are very much underrated in my opinion. I also think that Green Bay is rapidly improving and also dangerous. As a Bear fan I detest GB but right now I think the Pack are better than Detroit who have suffered several significant injuries and are not playing anywhere near the level they did early in the season. We do not have much of a 'track record' on Lion's coach Campbell. The players seem to love playing for him, the media fawns over him but he has yet to prove that he is the highly successful coach that the Media loves to portray him. Could he have pushed his team too hard early in the year and the team has peaked ? Are all the injuries they suffered responsible for their subpar play lately ? They jumped out to a big lead down in NOLA but were actually fortunate to hang on and win and cover. I am in total agreement with Walt that the Saints have talent but are poorly coached and in my opinion 'counterfeit'. However, opinions are like a--holes, everyone has one so don't sweat the Power Rankings but use them in your decision making as far as wagering. Al least for me cashing winning tickets is what this is all about. Good Luck the rest of the season.

@j_oliver_23 These aren't season long power rankings, it's supposed to be a guide on who should beat who next week and into the future. Not saying the rankings are right or wrong just that a teams wins weeks 1-4 don't hold much weight at this point in the season. 0 0
